Anthropologists
Job Description:
Anthropologists study the evolution of human kind and its place in the scheme of biological evolution. They undertake excavation or exploration of pre-historic sites and by studying historical remnants like, pottery, fossils or even etching on rocks, try to identify the period and learn about its contemporary culture. They also preserve, reconstruct and classify museum objects, related to various aspects of human evolution. In their attempt to study the various dimensions of human existence and behaviour, anthropologists pursue specialized branches. The elementary branches of specialization are the following:
· Physical Anthropology
· Socio–cultural Anthropology
· Archaeological Anthropology
· Linguistic Anthropology
Educational Qualification:
B.A., B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Anthropology.
Opening:
There are three main areas of employment for an Anthropologist, i.e., teaching, research and working in museums. Research jobs are available in organizations like Archaeological Survey of India, the Planning Commission as well as international organizations like the United Nation’s UNESCO or UNICEF also require their services. Moreover, openings are also available with museums and Non Governmental Organizations (NGOs) working in the backward areas.
