Indian Army
Joining the Army as a Commissioned Officer is a matter of PRIDE for the enthusiastic and keen young individuals. Their desire of an adventurous and secured life with attractive pay and perks motivates them to join the defense services than any other salaried jobs.
Armed Forces render invaluable services to the country both in times of war as well as in peace, protecting the security of our nation from external threat. In addition to this, it also contributes towards ensuring the internal security and stability. Armed Forces are looking for highly motivated patriots and well disciplined young individuals to join as Officers.
Army constitutes ‘Fighting Forces’ and ‘Support Services’.
Fighting Forces consist of Corps of Armed, Artillery, Signals, Engineers and Infantry or Mechanized Infantry.
Support Services render their support in terms of Medical, Clothing, Transportation, Ration supply, Ammunition and Equipment as well as repair of Equipments.
Fighting Forces:
A) Armoured Corps: They are specializing in tank operations and destroy enemy positions with the help of tanks. They also operate tanks and amphibious assault vehicles in combat or scouting missions. When the infantry has difficult and dangerous missions to perform, they were called upon for special operations.
B) Artillery: Artillery defends vulnerable targets like Airfields, Dams, Bridges and Nuclear Installations from enemy attack by the means of air defence systems. They provide support by bringing down heavy fire on enemy positions with field guns and tactical missiles etc. They also drop troops behind enemy lines and supply arms and ammunition to troops.
C) Signals: They operate and maintain communication links, during war and peace times. During war, they keep pace with moving columns and provide communication links.
D) Engineers: They are specialized in rapid movement in building Roads, Bridges, Airfields and destroying enemy bridges, putting obstacles for enemy movement, laying mine fields for their defence and destroying enemy minefields.
E) Infantry/Mechanized Infantry: About, one fourth of the total manpower of army consists of soldiers, who are trained and equipped to fight on grounds. They capture enemy territory during wartime. The Mechanized Infantry equipped with Armoured Personnel Carriers and other Vehicles.
Support Services:
A) Army Service Corps: It operates the mobility of troops, vehicles a_Ìnd ammunitions. They provide all the materials required by the army, such as bulk transport convoys and ammunition stocks, replenishments during war, rations and clothing for the troops etc. The cops also handle postal services in forward areas.
B) Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (EME): They are responsible for the maintenance and servicing of all vehicles and equipments including guns, radars, helicopters etc. They also fabricate technical items. For this branch army recruits engineers in its officer’s cadre and trains them according to its requirement.
C) Army Ordinance Corps: Responsibilities of procurement, storage, maintenance and issue of all types of hardware, i.e. equipment, spares, ammunition, clothing etc. are the prime area of work.
D) Army Medical Corps: Army Medical Corps is the division of medical corps, which provides medical care to the personnel of all the three branches of the armed force as well as their family members. They manage the hospitals, clinics and MI Rooms. They also commissioned Dental Surgeons.
E) Nursing Officers: Nursing Staff takes care of patients whilst helping to manage a ward. They nurse service personnel and their families.
F) Intelligence Corps: Specialized in Signal Intelligence, Photographic Interpretation, Decoding of Messages and provides information about defence matters.
G) Education Corps: Educates troops so that they can keep pace with the latest advancement in Weapon Technology, Electronics, Tactical Logistic etc.
H) Army Postal Services: They look after the postal needs of Army, their men and families. All types of mail, parcels, money orders etc are sent from or to forward areas through this service.
I) Judge Advocate General: Personnel in this services have legal background (Law Graduates) and deal with all matters related to law like disciplinary cases and court–martials etc. They also give legal advice to staff.
J) Remount Veterinary Corps: They runs and maintain dairy and agricultural farms. Animals like horses and mules are required for carrying heavy arms and ammunition on high altitudes terrains. Trained dogs are also kept for trekking enemy spies. Breeding and care of all such animals is the responsibility of the Remount Veterinary Corps.
