Chemical Industry
The science of chemistry has a role to play in almost all the major manufacturing industries. It has it applications in industries as varied as petrochemical, textiles, cosmetics, paper, paints, rubber, food, drugs and agriculture. The chemical industry can be classified into a number of ways e.g. depending upon the nature of chemicals being used, namely organic chemicals and inorganic chemicals or the end use of the product like chemicals for fertilizers or pharmaceuticals and so on. The area of work for a chemical scientist would depend upon his specialization and would broadly involve chemical analysis, synthesis, research and sampling of solids, liquids and gases for determining the composition, properties, physical and chemical changes.

Since the job of a chemical scientist is related to the industry manufacturing a particular product or products, the work environment is highly variable. Nevertheless, in production of chemicals and allied products there is a significant amount of handling of poisonous chemicals. However in administrative positions the work goes on in office conditions like in any other office.

Educational Qualification:
Graduates in chemistry have the option to pursue pure sciences at the postgraduate levels and subsequently undertake research work or alternatively choose to pursue further study in one of the applied branches of chemistry like sugar technology, industrial chemistry, paper and pulp technology, process instrumentation, paint technology and so on. Chemical Engineering is a full-fledged engineering course and can be opted for like any other such course after 10+2.
