Air Traffic Controller

Job Description:
The air traffic control system is a vast network of people and equipment that ensures the safe operation of commercial and private aircraft. Air traffic controllers coordinate the movement of air traffic to make certain that planes stay a safe distance apart. Their immediate concern is safety, but controllers also must direct planes efficiently to minize delays. Some regulate airport traffic; others regulate flights between airports. They also provide inputs to the pilots on weather and other conditions in order to maintain safe and orderly flow of traffic both in the air as well as on the ground. After each plane departs, airport tower controllers notify enroute controllers who will next take charge.

Educational Qualification:
A degree in electronics or telecommunication engineering. ATCOs, once they are selected, have to undergo rigorous training at the Civil Aviation Training Centre in Allahabad. On completion of the training they appear before a rating board before being appointed in one of the four sections viz. control tower, radar, aircraft control and flight information service, of the Air Traffic Control Tower.

Opening:
