Special Correspondent

Job Description:
Journalists reporting on a topic of specialization like politics, foreign affairs, finance or sports are called Correspondents or Special Reporters. They do not just report news but analyse and comment upon it. Such journalists may either be academically qualified in the particular discipline or acquire specialization through work experience. Newspapers also hire columnists who specialize and write on a particular subject. Such ‘syndicated columnists’ may contribute to a number of newspapers at the same time.

Educational Qualification:
Postgraduate Diploma in Journalism and Mass Communications. Also refer to ‘introductions’ to journalism

Opening:
Career opportunities for senior journalists like Special Correspondent and Bureau Chiefs are open in newspapers, magazines and periodicals, news agencies and bureau, television and radio, Internet, international newspapers and magazines. Employment avenues are also available in the Indian Information Service of the Government, Directorates of Publicity, Advertising and Visual Communication agencies etc.
