The industry has three major areas of work namely research and development, manufacturing and merchandising. Textile Engineers work to find new synthetic materials, fabrics, textures; experiment with dyes and weaves, fabric strength; develop and adapt new technologies.
The industry faces stiff international competition in view of WTO agreements. New technologies and processing methods are being developed for manufacturing durable and cost efficient materials. The textile industry in India is one of the largest in the world and is still growing. It has immense career potential.
