Librarian

Libraries are the storehouses of knowledge and information. A well-equipped library would contain not only books and periodicals but also microfilms, videos, cassettes and records for education, research, reference and pleasure. There are different kinds of libraries depending upon the readership to which it is catering. Public libraries are set up to serve the general public and may include mobile facilities. Academic libraries are on the other hand part of an institution, and used by its students, academic staff and research scholar's etc. There are also specialist libraries that cater to a specific readership and are attached to the research and academic institutions.

The job of a librarian is to systematically catalogue, store and display the books and other printed material in a library. In the field of education and culture the role of a librarian can be equated to that of a teacher or an educationist.

Educational Qualification:
A Bachelor’s degree in library science (B.Lib.Sc) is offered as a one-year course after graduation in any subject. A diploma or certificate course requires 10+2 in any subject with a duration that can vary according to the program and the institution conducting it. Postgraduate course, also of one-year duration, is open for candidates who have bachelors’ degree in the subject. One can pursue further studies and do M.Phil or PhD in the subject.
