Job Description:
A separate cadre of Law Officers exists to deal with the legal needs of the navy. There are permanent Commissioned Officers as well as Short Service Commissioned officers in the Law Cadre. They are law advisors, deal with Court Martials and other legal matters pertaining to the organization and the troops.

How to Join:
A) Direct Entry (NDA) Law Cadre

(i) Type of Entry - National Defence Academy (NDA)

(ii) Mode of - Through Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) and selection getting through Naval Selection Board.

(iii) Advertisement Schedule - Advertised in all National Leading Newspapers/ Employment News in Apr/May and Sep/Oct every year.

(iv) Status Awarded - Sub Lieutenant in Navy.

B) Short Service Commission (SSC)
(i) Type of Entry - SSC (CDSE)

(ii) Mode of selection - Departmental Interview followed by Naval Selection Board’s Interview.

(iii) Advertisement Schedule - Advertised in all National Leading Newspapers/ Employment News in Apr/May and Sep/Oct every year.

(iv) Status Awarded - Sub Lieutenant in Navy.

Qualification:
A) Direct Entry (NDA) Law Cadre

(i) Qualifications - Degree in Law qualifying for enrolment as an Advocate under the Advocates Act 1961 with minimum 55% marks.

(ii) Age - Between 22 and 27 years

B) Short Service Commission (SSC)
(i) Qualifications - Degree in Law qualifying for enrolment as an Advocate under the Advocates Act 1961 with minimum 55% marks.

(ii) Age - Between 22 and 27 years

Note: Women Candidates are also eligible through SSC. Length of Commission is up to 7 years, extendable upto 10 years.
