Job Description:
The work of a psychiatrist is similar to that of any other medical practitioner and would first involve diagnosis and then the treatment. However the remedy part is different and may take the form of either medication or counseling or psychotherapy or electrotherapy or even combination of two or more of these. They also work with occupational therapists and social workers for the rehabilitation of their patients, helping them to resume their normal activities. Psychiatrists sometimes make use of techniques like hypnotism for treating their patients. Some of them specialize in child psychology and deal with problems of juvenile delinquency.

He should be able to empathize with the patient and at the same time should have an objective approach towards the problems of the patient. Postgraduate Degree (MD) / Diploma in Psychiatry

Job opportunities for a psychiatrist exists in any Regular Hospital as well as in Mental Hospitals. In addition they can work as counselors in large industries and in drug de–addiction centers. One also has the option to set up a private practice or join the faculty of a Medical College or Institution.
